Samuel Ofoso-Ampofo, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has charged the party Communications Bureau to replicate 2020 budget forum in over 230 districts in the country to reveal the deceits in the document.
The National Chairman, in commending the party Communications Department, he also appealed to them to try and translate the disclosures made in the “bye – bye budget” in the local languages for the Ghanaian electorates to see the hidden lies.
One of the speakers at the forum, Hon. Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolga East, Isaac Adongo alleged there are “Bunch of Databank Triangle of Evil” led by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to destroy the Banking sector.
The event organized by the NDC Communications Bureau in Accra he describes the budget as an “Injury time Budget” for propaganda purposes going into 2020 elections.
The NDC Communications Bureau organized the public forum to educate Ghanaians on the hoax 2020 Budget carries as a bait to deceive Ghanaian electorates one’s again for their votes in the elections.
The over packed public forum in Accra disclosed lots of hoax in the 2020 Budget Statement and Financial Estimates presented to Parliament by the cousin of the President Akufo-Addo who doubles as the Finance Minister.
The NDC used platform to constructively dissect and expose the several distortions contained in the Budget and justify why it must fast-track the exit of the “deceptive, insensitive, corrupt, nepotistic and non-performing Akufo-Addo government”.
Civil Society Organizations and Ghanaians from all walks of life attended and participated in the forum.
The ‘fearsome’ Bolga East MP, Adongo argued that under the President Akufo-Addo administration, “the Cedi is in serious coma”, he alleged the Finance Minister came to inform Parliament that at the end of 2017, the cedi depreciated by 4.8%. At the end of 2018, the cedi depreciated by 8.8% and as at September 2019, the cedi depreciated by 9.2%”
This shows the governing NPP is an epitome of incompetent political party led by ‘substandard’ President to manipulate economic figures and data in their bid to continue to deceive the people, Adongo revealed.
The former Deputy Finance Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Fifi Kwetey on his part said 75 per cent of Ghana’s total debt stock since the country independence in 1957, has been borrowed by the Akufo-Addo government close to just 36 months in power.
“And when you point it out, they tell you: ‘Oh it is because of depreciation of the currency’, Really,
is this the first time the cedi has started depreciating?” he amazed.
To him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) explanation smacks of double standards.
“…these are people who claim they are the best managers of the economy and the cedi has performed wonderfully under them, yet when you point to the huge debt, they tell you it is because of the depreciation of the Cedi”, he opined.
“Double-talkers; lack of credibility, lack of trustworthiness and you can’t build an economy when you do not have credibility, you don’t have trustworthiness”, Mr Kwetey posited.
