The National Democratic Congress, NDC has raised red-flag indicating the Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare led Electoral Commission are scheming to rig the upcoming 2020 elections in favour of the Nana Addo led NPP government with its planned new register.
To this effect, the NDC has vowed to resist any attempts by the Electoral Commissioners plans to compile entirely new voters’ register.
Next year is an election year and the country is already tensed, the current voters’ register which contains close to 18 million voters who were biomedically captured, the Jean Mensah and Dr. Bossman Asare cunningly want to discard it for entirely new one.
The actions and ultrances of Madam Jean and Dr. Bossman appear they are serving the interest of the ruling NPP as a return gesture, and this is generating lots of tension in the country ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Prior to the the 2015/16 elections then opposition NPP called for the change of the voters’ register with feeble reasons which a committee set to look into it discarded that with a number of better reasons.
The NDC, at a press conference on Thursday, affirmed its stance that there is no need for a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Addressing the media, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah questioned the need for a new register since the existing one was used for the just ended local assembly elections few days ago.
“What has suddenly gone wrong with the register, or what is likely to go wrong with the register between now and Election Day of December 7, 2020?”, he quizzed.
Raising additional concerns, the National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo pointed out that the political climate currently in Ghana does not support the EC’s bid.
